Hello, Bluebird Families!
In December, we focused on finishing up our secret projects for the Art Show. Our “Spread the Love” mobiles involved many steps, but turned out to be so amazing! First, we collected sticks on a nature walk. Then we painted the sticks and used yarn to tie them together. Next, we made pom poms after reading Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett. We loved that book about a young girl who knitted sweaters for everyone and everything around her! We painted some wooden hearts and glued some smaller pom poms onto the hearts. Finally, we tied all of the pieces together! I am so proud of how hard the children worked on these beautiful pieces!
We studied Van Gogh’s Starry Night, noticing and discussing his choice of colors and techniques. We played with Starry Night playdough, a mix of blue and yellow doughs with some dark blocks for trees and some wooden stars, shiny gemstones, and yellow spiky balls Then we painted our own incredible Starry Night canvases and even included a bit of glow in the dark paint!
We created yarn art by gluing colorful yarn to black paper. It was interesting to watch each child approach this project in a unique way. Some used small bits of yarn, while others used a lot! Some carefully placed each piece in a certain location on the paper, while others threw them on in a pile. They all turned out beautifully!
More art pieces will be coming home each day! Enjoy!
