Hello, Bluebird Families!
We have been learning all about chickens over the last 2 weeks! We have read many chicken books together and the children have gotten really good at identifying if each book was fiction or nonfiction. We have learned so many interesting facts, but also laughed a lot! There is so much chicken play happening on the playground, which is such an amazing way for me to see what they have retained from our studies! Their play revolves around how and what chickens eat, how and where they sleep, how they sit on their eggs, the various noises they make for different reasons, their main predators, their body language, movements, and habits! It has been so much fun to witness their expressions of new knowledge through play! I am hoping this week we will get to interact with some baby chicks!
If you have been reading simple books with your child or even if you have heard them read through some of the sentences in our language packets as they come home, you have probably been impressed with your child’s reading. All of the children have been making such incredible progress! It is so exciting! A few parents have asked if I could send home some new packets for their children to continue practicing their reading skills over the summer. I am happy to do so. Please let me know soon if you are interestedin this, so I will have enough time to get them ready for you.
We continue to love and appreciate nature! We painted some pictures of beautiful purple irises that I brought in from my yard recently. We are always noticing the new flowers blooming and insects buzzing around! We have also loved watching a mama bird take care of her nest of babies in the picnic shelter ceiling. She is hard at work every day flying back and forth to find food and feed them! We finished our tadpole to frog observations last week. The children really loved watching the transformation and were a bit sad for them to leave, but they needed to go back to their natural habitat for the frogs to start catching their own food! We now have a fish tank in our room with 3 tetras, 2 algae eaters, and 2 snails. We have all loved watching the fish and taking care of them. I made a chart to make sure each child will get a couple of turns feeding the fish before the end of the school year. We have also been working on turning one of our bulletin boards into a fish tank. The children have enjoyed making rocks and plants and are finishing up their fish.
We celebrated W’s birthday with a horse and fairy birthday ring. The children each made a page for her birthday book. Now, every Bluebird’s birthday has been honored at school!
We will be talking about seeds and plants for the next two weeks! It’s hard for me to believe that is all the time we have left together! I have so loved having each Bluebird in my class this year!
Thank you for sharing your children with me!
