Hello, Bluebird Families!
During this short week we had many fun creative expereinces. We painted on snow with squeeze bottles of water mixed with food coloring. We painted paper bags to collect our valentines in. This project spanned 4 days, as we painted one side each day. These bags are so beautiful! I can’t wait for you to see them when they bring them home full of valentines on Tuesday. We created fun valentine shapes on our geoboards with colorful rubberbands. We also watched a very short video about the Aurora Borealis and then drew our own gorgeous versions of them on black construction paper with chalk.
We also celebrated L’s half birthday on Wednesday with a chicken farm birthday ring. We sang to her and made her a birthday book. The children always love celebrating their friends’ birthdays and always think of personal ways to show they care about them throughout the day. I love seeing their kindness and thoughtfulness shining brightly on these special days!
We have finished reviewing all of our letters by name and sound now. I’m sure you have seen the letter packets coming home. This next week we will start putting those sounds together to begin reading words! Some of us are so anxious to get started on this, while others of us are a bit nervous. I totally understand and relate to those mixed feelings. I remember struggling with this transition in my own year of kindergarten many, many years ago when I was 5. I knew all the letter names and sounds, but had a hard time shifting to reading words. So, please be patient and encouraging through this shift. Sometimes our excitement over what is coming can feel like pressure to our kids. It can be an exciting time, but it can also be frustrating. I will be forming small reading groups, so each child can work through this process of reading at their own pace and get the individual guidance that they need.
Thank you for sharing your children with me!
