Hello, Bluebird Families!
Everyone was so excited to see each other after a week away from school for spring break!
We read several books that invoved using math skills. We used our time telling skills as we read The Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle. We practiced fractions as we read Give Me Half by Stuart J. Murphy. We used our adding skills to solve puzzles in Mission Addition by Loreen Leedy. And we compared sizes that wowed us in Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is? by Robert E. Wells. We continue working on math skills each day during our calendar time. Earlier in the year we used addition facts to make the number of the day in different ways. Now the children are confident in using subtraction facts as well.
We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day for several days this week. We wore green , read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover by Lucille Colandro, searched for clovers outside, and made I Am Lucky Because… 4 leaf clover crafts where the children thought of 4 things they felt made them lucky. It was so fun to see their thought processes on this. We also read The Magic School Bus Makes a Rainbow by Joanna Cole and used prisms outside in the sunshine to see how white light becomes colored light. We read My Lucky Day by Keiko Kaska. Ask your Bluebird whether the fox or the pig had the lucky day! We also read a fun leprechaun mystery chapter book called March Mischief by Ron Roy. Finally, we read The End of the Rainbow by Liza Donnelly, about friends who go on an adventure to find the end of the rainbow, each dreaming about the treasure they might find there. They never found the end of the rainbow, but discovered that they still found a treasure…their friendship! We started making a Friendship is More Valuable Than Gold craft that we will finish on Monday.
Thanks for sharing your children with me!
