Hello, Bluebird Families!
This week we’ve been reading lots of apple books. Some of these books are nonfiction, while others are fiction. We are learning to identify the books we read into these two categories. One of the children’s favorite books was The Starry Giraffe by Andy Bergman. Every time the starry giraffe reached up a tall tree to get a yummy red apple to eat, one of his hungry friends came along. The kind and generous giraffe gave every apple away until it seemed he had nothing left to eat for himself. We were feeling sad for him, but then we discovered that he was actually in the middle of an apple orchard! So, he simply walked to the next apple tree and ate 27 apples! We loved that surprise ending! We also read about Johnny Appleseed. See what your Bluebird remembers about him!
We do lots of math during our calendar times! However, I love seeing learning happening naturally, right as the children are playing. One morning this week as the children were playing with trains, they began doing lots of math with no prompting from me! They were measuring, comparing train lengths, counting the train cars, discussing more than and less than, and figuring out how to make their trains equal. It was a great impromptu lesson!
We made some beautiful loose parts creations this week. I loved seeing the children thinking through the process and deciding exactly which items to use where. If you haven’t already, please look at the school’s instagram to see pictures of these amazing masterpieces and have your child tell you all about how they made theirs!
On Friday, we loved creating with playdough, coloring some special apples, reading more books, playing outside, and having our special story and music time with Allison. The children always get excited for our weekly times with her. I hope you had a wonderful long weekend together. I’m looking forward to another fun week with the Bluebirds! We will finish up with apples and move into learning about fall.
Thanks for sharing your children with me!
