Hello, Bluebird Families!
We had such a fun, creative week together getting ready for our art show! I won’t ruin any surprises here. You will get to see everything on Friday, November 20th, when it all comes home and I will post A LOT of pictures on Instagram of the art in process, as well as the finished pieces. However, I will give you a few hints right now about what we’ve been up to.
We decorated our art portfolios to help us carry all of our art home. We learned about abstract art and then created our own abstract art with oil pastels. We read Extra Yarn and created some yarn art. We learned about symmetry and created some symmetrical art with paint, yarn, and folded paper. We used watercolors to paint several beautiful pictures. We learned about Picasso and looked at the many different types of (age-appropriate) portraits that he painted. Then we looked in a mirror and used tempera paint sticks to create our own self-portraits. We also read An Eye for Color and learned about the German artist Josef Albers, who spent his life studying the way colors interract with each other. Then we did our own study of color as we created some stunning colorful art!
This week will be full of more art! On Friday, we will have a dress up day, where your child can dress up as their favorite artist, art concept, art supply, or even simply their favorite color! Please remember that school will close at noon this Friday, November 20th.
Thanks for sharing your children with me!
