Hello, Bluebird Famlies!
A few of our Bluebirds were away on trips were greatly missed in our Kindergarten nest! Everyone will be so glad for them to be back this week!
In math, we continued our calendar skills, using tally marks to make each day’s date, and telling time to the hour and half hour. We also practiced the concept of adding and subtracting zero and one. We got creative with making shapes, pictures, and even music on our geoboards. We also played a dice rolling game, where we used tally marks to keep track of how many times the dice landed on each number.
We read Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr. Seuss and then drew ourselves and used our Do-A-Dot paint markers to create ten apples on top of our heads. We read Ten Red Apples by Pat Hutchins and sorted apples by many different attributes like color, size, whether they had leaves attached or not, and whether they had worms in them or not.
We compared maps to see how our city is in our state, which is in our country, which is in the world. We studied the American flag and discussed why it has 50 stars and 13 stripes. We listened to the Pledge of Allegiance, discussed the meaning of its words, and practiced saying it together.
We continue to eagerly await for our monarch butterflies to emerge. Maybe it will happen this week! We painted bowtie pasta like butterflies and penne pasta like caterpillars. We also used rolling marbles to make beautiful, abstract paintings. The children loved watching the marble paint for them as they tipped the box with their paper in it many different ways.
During our outside time this week, we enjoyed a variety of activities. We became vets and washed the playground animals in soapy water and cared for them until they were all better. We transformed the sandbox into a beach and were thrilled to discover mermaids among us! We mixed up some great recipes using the finest ingredients nature could offer. On Friday during the downpour we made chalk paint under the picnic shelter again and splashed in some great puddles.
I’m looking forward to another wonderful week with your amazing children!
