Hello, Bluebird Families!
It was a short week, with a snow day on Monday, but we filled it up with lots of fun learning and playing! We are still on the topic of snow because we are all so excited about it, including me! On Tuesday, we read Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton and played in 2 different snowy sensory bins. One bin contained rice and bulldozers so we could be Katy and move the big snow to help our town. The other bin contained oatmeal and winter animals. On Wednesday, we read The Bravest Dog Ever: The True Story of Balto by Natalie Standiford. The children were so fascinated with this story! We colored a picture of Balto and a picture of a dog sled team and their driver. On Thursday, we did some mapping to see where Balto lived in comparison to where we live and to follow the dog sled trail from Anchorage to Nome. It was fun to see the students use their life experiences as a frame of reference. They found states on the map near Virginia where some of their relatives live and talked about even though it looks close on the map, it takes a long time to get there! So even though Ancorage looks close to Nome on the map of Alaska, it would take a long time for the dog sled teams to get the medicine to the sick people who needed it. On Friday, we read Why Does It Snow? and The Magic School Bus Gets Lost in the Snow. We also starting making our own dog sleds with popsicle sticks. We will finish these in the next few days!
Looking forward to another great week!
Thank you for sharing your children with me!
