Hello, Bluebird Families!
We enjoyed 4 more great days in kindergarten this week! We read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett and then drew the foods we wish would fall from the sky. We also read Silly Sally by Audrey Wood and then told and illustrated our own silly walking stories. During our rest time, we enjoyed listening to Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne.
We explored and experimented in many different ways during our outside times this week. We traced our bodies with sidewalk chalk to make self portraits on the concrete floor of the picnic shelter. We rode a tricycle and ran after big yoga balls. We were paleontologists and discovered dinosaur bones. We were chefs and created many amazing works of culinary genius. We collected berries and left them as a gift on a bird feeder for our bird friends.
We played lots of games to practice concepts like opposites, rhyming, counting, alphabet letters and sounds. We started learning some new concepts, like using tally marks and telling time to the hour and half hour on both analog and digital clocks. I made name puzzles for each child. Each morning we enjoy putting the letters of our name in order and practice writing our names with the first letter uppercase and the rest of the letters lowercase. Once we are confident with first names we will add last names to our puzzles, and then finally middle names. Before long, we will be masters of our names!
As we continue to get to know each other, we are focusing on our two basic class rules: 1. Be safe. 2. Be kind. We are learning how to express our different opinions in a kind way and how to talk about what we want or need in a way that helps everyone to feel safe, respected, and included. I love the creative solutions that the children think of to settle a matter in a way that results in everyone’s happiness.
Thanks for sharing your children with me!
Anna
P.S. If you haven’t sent in the 2 printed pictures I requested (a family picture and a picture of your child), please do so as soon as possible. Thanks!
