Oh my! These Foxes love exploring in-depth artists and art concepts. I introduced cool colors this week while we explored the works of Monet – especially his gardens.
Our workers space has turned into a castle. Thank you parents, for contributing so many loose parts for us to paint and play with.
We continued to reinforce our three primary colors and explore how we create the secondary colors: purple, green, and orange. The kids can’t get enough of the book, “Mouse Paint” and “Mix it Up.”
Mr. Clayton got inspired by Ms. Sally’s hunk of air-drying clay and led a mosaic project. We studied mosaics by looking though many different pictures on my laptop and we talked about how are created – by arranging together small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone, tile, or glass.
Another fun project was our group collage inspired by Henri Matisse. Late in his career he was inspired to paint with scissors” vs. the paint brush. He used to scissors to create organic shapes and pasted them on paper to create bright bold collages.
Rainy days had the Foxes splashing in puddles and making chocolate milk in the sand box and some chocolate soup for the teachers. We tried our first class Cosmic Yoga, it was a big hit!
The end of the week we talked more in depth about some of the artists we will explore next week… Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, and Andy Warhol. The Foxes loved the book, “Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos.” He had fun looking through her self portraits and spotting the animals we learned about in the book. We even explored sensory bins with small finger puppets of famous artists!
These past two weeks have been so much fun! Your children are so curious and creative. Thank you for the opportunity to share the love of learning with them. — Mrs. Marci
