Exploring outer space with the Friendly Foxes was a blast. They had so many incredible questions and Mr. Clayton could answer every single one! We broke it up into three parts: 1.) Astronauts and space ships 2.) Planets 3.) Stars.
The students created spaceships with their names and they were so proud to see them on our bulletin board. Clayton talked about astronauts exploring the moon and space. We read pretended we were astronauts using small astronaut figures in our kinetic moon-sand and cosmic black bean sensory bins with planets and stars. Best of all, we flew to the moon and many planets in our cardboard-make-believe space ship.
The planets were new to some and familiar to others. They loved deciding which planet was their favorite. We read many books and created our very own planets one morning using glitter and glue.
Mr. Clayton really made the topic of “stars” come to life. The children learned about the different kind of stars, nebulae, and our very special star, the sun. The children loved painting spaceships and decorating the cosmos with sticker stars. They created their very own star blue, red, yellow, and orange with finger paint, it was messy but so much fun. We added these stars to our bulletin board.
We have so many pictures from this unit. Check them out HERE –>
