Hi, Parents,
Clayton and I were so happy to welcome our Friendly Foxes back into the classroom. We continue to venture outside on our nature walks and even in the snow. Inside play includes sensory bins with polar bears, doctors visits with Miss Meena McStuffins, and elaborate train tracks.
Our theme for these two weeks are the arctic tundra in the North Pole and Antartica in the South Pole. We’ve read many about penguins, arctic wolves, polar bears, and the tundra. Mr. Clayton shared fabulous video that included the albatross, humpback whales, walruses, seals, and orcas. We have an exploratory station set up with small figures from the arctic tundra and through out the week we’ve enjoyed traveling to Antarctica through penguin play in play dough and sensory bins that included snow and ice.
Since we have been referencing our world map and globe more than usual this week talking about the North and South Poles, we pulled out the large floor felt world map. Mr. Clayton’s gifts shined through as he walked the children though identifying exotic animals, different countries, climates, and even flags!
We haven’t celebrated any birthdays until now, and whoa look out, this foxes are growing up! We love celebrating our Friendly Foxes in such a special way!
Here are some pictures from some special moments during free-play and afternoon centers.
The children are doing a great job of recognizing their letters and numbers. This week we practiced writing the first letter of everyones’ name in the classroom on dry erase boards.
They also practiced tracing their entire first name on a mitten using uppercase first letter and lowercase for the rest of their name.
We have silly letter cards that are pictures of imaginary people twisting their bodies into uppercase letters. We traced the letters on the card with our shiny beads.
