During the month of November each class at The Children’s Garden Primary School explores art in various forms. During our first week the Friendly Foxes discovered primary colors; they created secondary colors by creating their very own color wheel.
We talked about some other very basic principles of art including line. We practiced drawing straight, curvy, zig-zag, loopy, and intersecting lines using a dry erase board. Play dough allowed the children to create their own lines using their hands, tools, and other prompts.
I also wanted the kids to combine recycled materials into a sculpture so we have been playing around with boxes, cylinders, egg cartons to make robots.
Because Kandinsky loved geometric shapes and bold colors, especially primary colors, we studied his concentric circles and explored many of his works of art. We played in sensory bins creating live art pieces using his shapes and colors.
We also recreated his famous concentric circles pieces using our scissor and glues skills while reinforcing he concept of small, medium, and big.
