Hi, Parents,
Here are some special moments from our week exploring our five senses: Sight, Hearing, Smell, Taste and Touch. Here is a photo of classmates discovering how different objects make sounds. We learned sound moves in waves through the air and vibrates our tiny pieces in our ear.
We also added some pages to our journal this week with prompts like, “I use my ears to hear. I like to hear…” Some answers were: drums, wind chimes, and the Fishy song.
The children especially loved using a tissue box to make a ukulele like mine. They realized different size rubber bands had different tension causing the pitch to sound lower or higher.
The kids requested a Nature Walk almost everyday this week. They love digging and noticing what has changed since the last time we were there.
We use scented paint and some essential oil sniffing to play around with our sense of smell. We explored our sense of taste that same day. I wish I had a photo of each child tasting the lemon slice 🙂
Our “Sense of Sight” day had us playing with our amazing projector loaned to us from Onyx’s family. Clayton asked the children to identify shapes with their eyes, create secondary colors with our translucent shapes, and they studied a diagram of the eye-ball!
When we explored our sense of touch we had lots of fun with a new kind of play dough that had a smoother texture. The children reached into a bag and pulled out different textured objects and used words to describe the objects… rough, smooth, soft, bumpy etc.
Next week we got to Outer Space! Please bring in any loose parts that would help us in our pretend play building a rocket ship or being astronauts traveling through space.
