Hello, Friendly Fox Families!
What a wonderful second week of school we had! We spent the week finding ways to feel comfortable in our classroom, building friendships, and exploring all of the wonderful things there are to do here. We spent some time making sure we can find the different places to be quiet, to be silly, and to be creative and use our imaginations, and how to ask for help when we need it. We truly want our students to know that this is a kind and safe space where they are loved and can love learning.
As Friendly Foxes, we decided to make a Class Agreements sign to hang. We made hand tracings to add to our sign so that we can have a visual reminder to always be kind and safe at school, and that way everyone can have fun! We will be finishing our sign up in the coming days. We spent a morning making beautiful self-portraits, which you can now find on our bulletin board. The children are so proud of these! We noticed ourselves and our unique features in mirrors for this activity, as well as for making our sign-in pocket people. The children truly enjoyed snipping fabric and yarn to dress their little people. We are using these to sign in each day, so please feel free to help your child do this each morning. We introduced our Author of the Month, Mo Willems. The children are thrilled about this, as he has written so many wonderful books that are fun to read and often also deliver a great message. We celebrated our first Friendly Fox birthday and talked about how we will celebrate everyone’s birthdays at school, even if do it on their half-birthdays! We introduced our “construction zone” materials, took turns building a school together with giant “noodles,” created beautiful watercolor paintings, loved some sensory playtime with different materials, made lovely free-art creations, enjoyed playing outside and so much more! We also enjoyed our first visit from our special friend, Allison, who will come each Friday to read and sing with us.
A few Friendly Fox reminders:
Please remember we don’t allow removable bracelets, necklaces, etc. at school. They are very distracting to the child wearing them, and the other children, are not safe to wear during recess, and can get easily lost. This is true for boys and girls, so we ask that they also not bring “slap bracelets” to school either. This also goes for all toys. Thank you for your cooperation!
Please also remember that if you’re passing out invitations at school, we ask that every Friendly Fox get one and that they go on top of the cubbies where the students can only open them with parents after school. We don’t want any friends feeling sad and left-out. Thank you for understanding!
You can follow us along daily throughout the year on Instagram at “childrensgardenschool”.
In Week 3 we will be learning about Nocturnal and Diurnal animals. This will give us a great opportunity to learn more about foxes since we are the Friendly Foxes! We have many fun and engaging activities planned to make this a wonderfully fun unit.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us!
