Hello, Friendly Fox families!
What a wonderful week of learning all about farms, harvests and and farm animals we’ve had. We have been learning so much about why farms are important, such as how this is where a lot of our food comes from. We have read some wonderful books about how farmers care for their animals, how food is grown, how animals take care of their babies. The highlight of the week was the Farmer’s Market farm stand that I surprised them with. They have had so much fun taking turns playing there! The children are playing so well, kindly, and creatively together. We are so pleased with how well they are communicating with one another. They are being so loving and affectionate with each other and we are giving them lots of praise for this.
We read “The Big Red Barn” and then made a big barnyard scene on our bulletin board. We enjoyed adjusting them until they could stand up on their clothes pin legs! We even made our own barnyards to take home! We made corn with paper husks and loved stamping with it. We learned about how well chickens take care of their eggs and we made our own chickens with babies tucked under their wings. We played a fun egg number and shape matching game as well. We played in a barn and barnyard together. We read lots of wonderful farm books together, we learned a new farm animal song with sign language and added it to our special journals. We talked about different farm equipment and we played in our new giant corn sensory box with some silo grain returns and we loved this a lot! We played a fun sheep-jumping-over-the-fence game and so much more!
We are enjoying this wonderful mild weather that we are having and playing outside as much as we can. It will be cooler next week, so pleases make sure your child has a jacket. We have a Fall Festival on Friday October 29th and all children are invited, including Tuesday/Thursday students. The school will send out an email with more details. It will take place in the morning at school. As a reminder, please keep all candy and costumes at home, thank you! Next week we will continue our studies of autumn and harvest time and we will have a whole week of apple studies! We will be tasting apples and making cider and applesauce. We will use a little cinnamon and a little brown sugar, so please let me know if this is not okay.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us!
