Hello, Friendly Fox Families!
We hope you had a wonderful Fall Break together last week and felt rested and ready for December! We were so happy to have all of our sweet friends back in the classroom together. We missed them and they missed each other! We’ve seen lots of friendly hugs, many sweet moments of them checking on friends if someone looks sad or upset, lots of helping hands, and giving one another lovely compliments. These are the things that make our world go ’round!
This week we learned about some new artists and their unique techniques, focusing on a few artists who particularly loved nature. We spent two days exploring Vincent Van Gogh’s style. We talked about Expressionism, and how Van Gogh sometimes felt a bit sad, and painting always made him feel better, and much he loved painting outdoors. We noticed the way he liked to use thick paints and textures, and then we made our own versions of some of his famous works, and played with lots of “Starry Night” sensory materials. We looked at lots of Georgia O’Keefe’s beautiful art (she also loved to go outside and paint) and then created our own versions of one of her beautiful pieces, “Ladder to the Moon.” We had a lot of fun building lots of different types of ladders together as well. One day we learned all about Impressionism and Claude Monet. We learned about how much he loved his gardens, and how much he noticed everything around him, including soft light and colors. We painted our own versions of his bridge paintings, and had so much fun playing with little bridges and animals. Today we talked a bit about another Pop Art artist, Keith Haring and how much he loved to paint people in action. We learned about one piece, “Best Buddies,” and then each painted one of our own. We even learned the hand sign for buddies! We had a blast raking leaves together, and even got to play a brand new super fun alphabet game! We had so much fun with all of this and so much more!
Next week we will make invitations to the Art Show so that you all know the details. The children are so excited to invite you! We will be building a giant collaborative sculpture together, learning about a few more artists and playing through lots more fun activities! We love school!
Thank you for being such wonderful partners in this adventure!
