The Bees are ready to say goodbye to February at circetime tomorrow morning. We’ve also been eyeing the official first day of spring that is rapidly approaching. We get to change the picture of the seasonal tree on our calendar.
The Friendly Foxes have let us join them in planting bulbs in their garden, and we’ve been enjoying the warm sunshine. I’m trying to not completely dive into spring though, because I think we have some cold days to come. We’ve been enjoying painting at the easel for the past week, and I’ll keep this going for the rest of the week.
My trip to the library inspired a mini unit on fairy tales. We continued today with a special Three Little Pigs. The pigs were actually yogis who helped the Big Bad Wolf work through his feelings. We’ll read this again tomorrow and do the breathing exercises with the pigs. I’m also planning a construction activity creating the three different kinds of houses in the story.
Our next fairytale will be Jack and the Beanstalk! Some of the kids have heard of these stories, but for others these are completely new. I’d like to try to incorporate the science of seeds as well, though we may save planting the seed for after spring break.
When we return from break we will begin a two week study of Honeybees. I’m also excited to study dinosaurs this spring, and I’ll start to plan when we’ll put our chicken eggs in the incubator. Who wants some baby chicks this year?
Did you get a chance to read last weeks letter? I’m going to continue on with our passion projects. Let’s talk about focusing on your child’s strongest passion/ interest at the moment, and we’ll plan a date for our passion museum. We can invite the other classes in to learn about our passions.
I set up a construction dramatic play center for them on Monday. We’ll try this again this week. Whose? passion is construction?
Stop by our Instagram to see the activities that have been keeping us busy. Today we enjoyed using mortars and pestles to create citrus and cinnamon potions. About halfway through we added baking soda and vinegar to our experiments to make some chemical reactions. We could compare the reactions of the citrus fruit and baking soda versus the vinegar and baking soda.
We are finding a lot of joy with each other right now.
