Hi Honeybee Families. We welcomed Spring on Monday by learning about the cherry blossom festival in both Japan and Washington DC. We learned that the earth has two hemispheres, and what the vernal equinox really is.
This week we also experimented with air dry clay and copper wire. We used our hands and paint brushes, finding that the weight of the clay could support our wire creations.
We continued to read about bee hives and beekeepers. We like the idea of eating flower juice!! Later in the week we used our mortar and pestles to grind flowers and actual bee pollen. Our room smelled so sweet.
Everyone loves painting at the easel, and we are feeling very comfortable taking turns. We keep a list, and we play until it is our turn.
We’ll spend a few more days learning about bees, and then I’d love to dedicate a day to the story of Elmer The Patchwork Elephant. We’ll then start a Dinosaur and Fossil study.
We are expecting an exciting delivery this week. The Honeybees have loved learning about insects so much that I ordered 8 Bess Beetles to live in our classroom. Wait till you see them.
See you in the Honeybee Room!
