Dear Honeybee Families,
Somehow after the Fall Festival I never posted a blog. I really need to whip these up during the week because Friday catapults me into what’s happening next. I will say that though the Fall Festival was fun, it had me thinking about changing the format for next year. Though we have a lot of “whole school” time, and we all get a chance to see all of the teachers, some of my young Honeybees did not want to be out and about in the school without their teachers. There were so many transitions! I always welcome change, and maybe after many years I’m finally learning what the three year olds have been trying to teach me.
Thanks to all the teachers for creating fun activities in every room, and thanks to those big Friendly Foxes and Bluebirds for helping out our littlest friends. Gosh, I wish I could have seen more pumpkin bowling.
This past week we started our ART NOVEMBER. We love our art unit so much that it is going to stretch into December this year. We’ve been learning about color theory, color mixing, and rainbows. We’ve read some wonderful art stories. Check out our Instagram… I’m trying to take a picture of the art books so that you and your Honeybee can talk about them at home. We had some new sensory bins based on artists we will study… Salvador Dali, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, and Andy Warhol. We’ll also learn about Yayoi Kusama, Edward Tingatinga, and Vincent Van Gogh. Of course, the most important artist will be your young Honeybee. We’ll investigate clay, weaving, found object sculpture, and mobiles.
I think we might see the whole class at school this week! Maybe we can catch a break from colds and post travel quarantines before Thanksgiving break. I’ll keep thanking you for your careful consideration about sending your child to school with a cold and the ways you have carefully navigated and communicated quarantine. We appreciate you. We see you. I got that Moderna booster on Friday, and I’m hoping we are in the homestretch with Covid.
It is getting chilly so make sure your child has a coat, hat, and mittens. Imagine me putting 100 fingers into gloves twice a day when you are buying hand warmers. Get mittens your child can put on. I’m constantly amazed that these children can put on their own shoes and boots. I think we are going to work on the classic Montessori “flip” with our coats this week.
I love the way many of you are coming in to read a story and play for a bit in the morning. It feels wonderful.
Thanks for sharing your incredible children with us.
