Here we are in the last two weeks before our winter break. I hope you are following our art show on Instagram because our process is so much more important that the BIG SHOW. You’ll receive an invitation to our show, but just know that it will be open next Thursday during drop of times, lunch pickup, and afternoon pickup and on Friday morning and at the lunchtime pickup. We close at noon on Friday.
Please consider an art show costume for your child on Friday. They can be their favorite color, art supply, artist, dancer……Catherine and I are dressing up and we are going to serve sparkling juice and cheese at snack time in our MUSEUM.
Last week we prepped canvases to get ready to “Action Jackson” them this week. We also painted sunflowers for a collaborative homage to Van Gogh’s Sunflower paintings. We read a book about Van Gogh and “painting the night” and a Monet book about “painting the air”. The Honeybees did a collaborative piece with purple crayon inspired by Harold and the Purple Crayon.
We met 25 pounds of clay with our feet, and later in the week we’ll work with clay at the table and at the wheel. We also made Van Gogh’s starry night out of playdough and loose parts. We use well known artists and inspiration and then “do it our way.”
Today we learned about Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Our circle time book about her life was wonderful. We are going to build a Yayoi Infinity Room for our art show next week.
This week we will paint with rolling pins, learn about Andy Warhol, and wrap up some of our works in progress. I think I have to save our robot sculpture for the New Year. We have decided that the week we come back to school we are doing a week long mini-unit on Japan. We want to make SUSHI.
Thanks so much for all of your support to keep us happy and healthy here in the Honeybee room.
