Dear Honeybees,
I’ve had a hard time making it to this space in the last two weeks. I’m going to try to be here more. It might even be easier if I came here more than once a week. I know that Covid has us all thinking in so many different directions at once.
We spent last week learning more about Polar Animals, the geography of the polar regions, and even how people live in polar regions. We learned the old song Baby Beluga and created our own Beluga for our room. We learned about the Beluga’s relative, the narwhal, and immersed ourselves in the sounds that whales and narwhals make.
We loved playing in our igloo after watching this video from 1922 about an Inuit mother and father building an igloo to live in. We read the Jan Brett class, Three Snow Bears, and looked at the detailed pictures of the interior of the igloo in the story. We made our beautiful undersea paintings and created our own Aurora Borealis with oil pastels.
If you haven’t come by instagram lately, I do post pictures daily because I want you to see what we are doing, reading, playing, and creating each day. I think I posted 36 pictures on Friday because we were so curious about the projector. We’ll be using it this week on Tuesday when we talk about a certain Groundhog seeing his shadow.
Next week we are going to make our own sushi on Monday. On Tuesday we are talking about Groundhog Day and launching our next unit ….Space….. by talking about the Lunar New Year. It’s the year of the Tiger. The Honeybees seem to be really interested in the moon, so that’s where we’ll start our space exploration. On Thursday and Friday I’d like each child to bring in a favorite book from home, and we’ll try to read all of our books. If you have older children you might have heard of DEAR time. (Drop Everything and Read) Please chose a picture book that I can read in 5-8 minutes. I want everyone to be able to hear their story.
