Dear Honeybee Familes,
During week 6 we made apple sauce for the second time, released our last Monarch butterfly, and played in a lot of glorious mud.
We have been incredibly lucky with our butterflies, and the kids have gotten to be with their butterflies as they hang from their chrysalis. The children always say that they are babies because they look small and compact as they emerge. They take hours to pump the fluid from their abdomen’s into their wings and become strong enough to fly. This butterfly emerged on a chilly day in the sixties and really didn’t want to fly at recess. It gave all of the children time to watch her closely. Then she went back inside for a few hours and was ready to fly from the Honeybee back porch in the afternoon.
At the end of the first six weeks, most of us are feeling comfortable and seemingly loving school. If your child is part time, this may take a few more weeks. The teacher’s enjoyed getting organized during our workdays. We had a meaningful staff meeting and some outside professional development. In the next few weeks each of you will receive a short writeup about your Honeybee and an invitation to a parent teacher conference. These are completely optional, and if you needed to meet with me you already have. I always want to be open to talking about your child at any time.
Check out our Instagram to see what our hands are in each day.
Big love,
Sally and Catherine
