It takes a long time to make butterflies, doesn’t it? Our chrysalis’ are getting darker and I can see the wing shapes, but the kids say this is taking too long.
We had some beautiful cool Fall days this week and celebrated the Autumn equinox. We added some apples to our art play this week, and I introduced my idea that anything can be a paintbrush. Wait until they learn how to make their own paint.
We added a few activities to our math center this week, and the Honeybees are still loving writing with water on the Buddhaboard. We celebrated our first class birthday on Tuesday as C turned four over the weekend. This has initiated a lot of birthday play, and everyone is really looking forward to their own birthday. We use a a traditional birthday ring, and I decorate it with some of their favorite things. After blowing out the candles we take a look at the child’s pictures as a baby, a one year old, a two year old, and a three year old. They hold a tiny earth and we talk about the earth going around the sun once a year and sing a special song as we go around the “sun” in the middle of our circle.
This week we might talk about more things that “fall” and read apple stories. I’ll get the supplies for the kids to make applesauce in the classroom. I have an old fashioned apple peeler, and we would love turning the crank to create a long apple peel that is taller than we are.
