It’s a sunny beautiful Earth Day. I hope you are going to get out there and play today.
I went for a hike yesterday with a friend who’s an ornithologist. Do you know what an ornithologist is? It’s a bird scientist. She wore her binoculars. It was a beautiful afternoon and she was looking for special birds who are MIGRATING. She and her ornithologist friends take notes when they see a new bird and share it with their community. We saw two beautiful broad winged hawks flying over a meadow. She pulled out her phone {computer} and added it to a community list and told where she saw the hawks so that others might see it when they hike in the same area. I think the Honeybees all know about MIGRATION from our study of monarch butterflies. The butterflies will be coming back, as well as all the birds that flew to warm places for the winter. Yesterday we were looking for warblers and tanagers that are moving through this area now.
Animals who may have been HIBERNATING are coming out of their holes and dens, and and animals who MIGRATE are on the move as it gets warm outside.
Here’s a beautiful story about a Wilson Warbler’s migration.
What can we make today to celebrate the Earth? I think it is the perfect day to make some outside art. You could choose your shape or idea and trace it on the ground with sticks and then fill in the interior with whatever material you have. It could be giant…. or tiny.
Have you ever heard of an artist named Andy Goldsworthy? He is an artist, photographer, and environmentalist who makes large and small scale installations in nature that are empheral… he makes them and then they disappear. I think this kind of art is inherent in all children. Here’s a quick three minute video of some of his creations.
Here’s one last Andy Goldsworthy video. I think the Honeybees would love to make this.
Show me some of your land art if you are outside today.
I asked Marci yesterday about the best song that I could teach you for Earth Day. Can we sing this one together.
Honeybees, I think it’s your turn to make dinner tonight. You’ve got this. Extend this recipe according to what you’ve got. Use French bread. Make a crust. Add frozen dough from Kroger to your Click List. This can be so plain or so fancy.

Honeybees, put your hands in the air. Wherever you are we wish you well. Show me your land art. Show me your pizza. Tell me what you want to talk about next week.
