Good morning friends! Are you ready to learn a little more about YOUR human body? First, I wanted to remember to tell you a story. I went to school yesterday to do some cleaning. It was so quiet there without you. It was so quiet that there was a RABBIT on the back porch. It was very surprised to see me.
Here’s a good explanation of the heart and the circulatory system. I would introduce the idea of how very small a red blood cell is our bodies.
We could make a simple sensory bin that gave us some of these ideas to play with. Use what you have for a base. Of course, red water beads would be incredible. Then add some kind of tubes from a playset you have… maybe beads to be the blood cells, red and blue yarn. You could add in a red car and a blue car to carry cells, as well as spoons and cups. What will you use for a heart? Maybe a red bowl?
Here’s an interesting blog post about playing with this ideas, and it has links to even more human body activities.
I definitely want to get this for our classroom next year, and of course I’m sharing it with the Friendly Foxes.
Let’s return to the human body cutout that we made yesterday. If your cutout is on paper, let’s get out red and blue markers or crayons and add some veins and arteries to our body. Remember those words from our video tour with the red blood cell? Arteries take oxygen to all the parts of your body, and veins return the carbon dioxide to your lungs to be released. I let the kids make arteries red because they are carrying oxygen…. and then make blue veins carrying back carbon dioxide. If you have created a fabric model, you could use different yarn colors to twist and twirl your arteries and veins.
Maybe it is finally time to create my dream classroom human body toy.
Let’s be real. I might change the words to “four chambered pump” just because… and for fun.
Are you ready for a family dance party to get your heart beating faster?
Put your hands in the air garden children. Wherever you are we wish you well.
