Did you see the big glowing moon in the sky this morning. Today is a full moon…..the Pink Supermoon. The moon isn’t really pink today, though it was pinky orange this morning. It’s called the Pink Moon because so many flowers are blooming at this time. Here is the way it looked at my house when I woke up this morning. Can you find the moon? What about my chicken house? The chickens are still inside.
Here’s one of our favorite singers doing a moon song.
There are some other exciting things happening up in the sky today. A spacecraft named Dragon is disconnecting from the International Space Station and returning home. Does it look like a dragon to you?

If you click on the NASA site today you may get to see some live coverage. The ship disconnected a little after 9 this morning and will splash down in the Pacific Ocean just before 3pm this afternoon. The Dragon is special because it can carry about three thousand pounds of equipment. The Honeybees know some of the things that astronauts need on the space station. It is returning to Earth today with lots of science experiments and gear.
If you are ready to move with some space stories today, here are several Cosmic kids episodes with a space theme. FYI, the second is a Star Wars yoga story.
When the energy in our room gets really high or when someone is sad or down we like to read the most familiar, most comforting stories. Like this one.
Here is another favorite moon story that we haven’t read this year.
Find or take a picture of your child. I usually take one from the back and ask them to pretend they are climbing the ladder. The background can be brush painting or finger painting and some glitter and stars are always good if you have some around. Ask your child to build a ladder. Their way. …and then you can glue it together. The Honeybees do well with a small bowl of glue and a small brush. Make a moon or find one.. a plastic top… in the recycling. Assemble when it is all dry.
Make sure you get out and see the supermoon tonight.
Honeybees, put your hands in the air. Wherever you are we wish you well.
