Have you seen any baby animals this spring? I haven’t been out much, but I have seen baby lambs, tiny rabbits, and little frogs. There are nests in all of my birdhouses in my yard. Spring is time for baby animals. Do you want to see some?
Here is a mama hummingbird on her nest. It is very easy to attract hummingbirds to your windows and porches with a hummingbird feeder.

Bella the Hummingbird has been nesting since at least 2005. Her nest is about the size of a golf ball, and her eggs are only about the size of a single tic tac. Every spring she lays eggs, and 2.5 weeks later the internet world watches new life being born. This year, she last laid her eggs on the 6th and 8th of March, which means they are due to hatch any minute now.
Have you ever seen a baby kangaroo? Kangaroo mamas have a pouch on their stomachs that a baby kangaroo can ride and nap in.
Do you see baby lambs sometimes? When I drive past farms lately I see lots of baby lambs.
Here is a helpful farm dog feeding a baby lamb with a bottle.
Let’s look at one more baby animal today.
Would you like to make an Elmer? You can print and color or paint this one.
Or glue paper or fabric squares onto a blank elephant.
If we were at school we might cut out a bigger cardboard elephant and add the patchwork all together. Or we might make these cardboard animals that stand up.
Maybe today would be a good day for some animal sensory play. What if you made one bin of MUD and one bin of soapy bubbles. Your animal figures could get very dirty and then take a warm bubbly bath. Add in an old toothbrush and a pipette or eye dropper.
I’ve been saving some pictures of ways to make special masks out of cardboard for us. I wish we made these to wear today. Should I give you some ideas about making masks wit cardboard, paper mache, and paint. We all need costumes, right?
Im going to leave you with a song I showed you a few weeks ago… just because it is about carrying water for the elephants.
Put your hands in the air Garden Children. Wherever you are we wish you well.
