Good morning Garden Children! Are you ready to get another stamp on your passport this week? We are getting ready to get on our airplane and head for Australia. We’ll have to bring a lot of snacks and books because it is a very long plane ride.
It’s always good to have a ticket when you are getting ready to go on a trip. Preschoolers love tickets, and we make a lot of tickets in our classroom. Cut a sheet of construction paper into six rectangles and you’ve got tickets. Maybe your child could add their name or their “letter” with a marker or colored pencil.
Here’s another link to a printable passport if you didn’t make one last week.
I didn’t know a lot about Australia until Lauren started working with me. She used to live there when she was little. Yes!!! With kangaroos.
Here are some amazing Australian animals. Do you know all of these animals?
Here’s a book that you know from the Honeybee classroom. What are you thinking about putting in your swag bag today?
Would you like to learn some facts about kangaroos?
Let’s go on a K is for Kangaroo scavenger hunt. First we’ll have to make our pouch. If we were at school I’d create a shape like this and punch holes with a hole punch to let the Honeybees “sew” their own pouch. Strings on the ends would let us tie on our pouches. Let your child write a K for Kangaroo on their pouch. What are we going to find? The letter k of course. Cut a sheet of paper into about 20 squares and write a k on each one. Maybe your child would like to make these. Have them leave the room while you hide all the letter K squares. When you are ready, the mama kangaroos can run around and find the letter K’s to put in their pouch. Let them know how many Ks you hid so that you can count your twenty Ks, perhaps in groups of five.
If you are really a kangaroo lover you could make your own letter K. I love the little joey.
Do you know how to sing Waltzing Matilda? Waltzing Matilda is Australia’s most well known bush ballad and is sometimes’s called Australia’s national anthem. Are you ready to really learn the words?
Here’s one more version for you on an album I love to play at school when we need a dance party.
We have something so special today… a story from Storyman Bob. He’s going to read us Timothy and the Strong Pajamas. ( Just hearing Bob’s voice made this teacher feel VERY emotional.)
Put your hands in the air Garden Children. Wherever you are we wish you well. Tomorrow we’ll talk about Koala Bears. Parents, get some eucalyptus with your grocery order from Kroger so we can smell what Koala bears eat.
