Good morning friends. We are still in Australia today. Lauren sent us her favorite song about an Australian animal, The Fairy Penguin Strut. Do you know what a strut is? It’s a fancy walk. Do you know what a fairy penguin is? These are the smallest penguins in the world and are native to Australia and New Zealand.
Can you move like a fairy penguin?
Did you see that picture of a koala? Lauren sent me that from her last trip to Australia. Let’s learn a little about koala bears.
Want to sing Koala-la-la-la?
Did you remember what a marsupial is? Were you a marsupial when you were searching were making your Letter K pocket and searching for the letter K? Did you hear that when a kangaroo is born it is the size of a peanut? When a koala bear is born it is the size of a jelly bean. What tiny little babies. You can play mama kangaroo and mama koala with a baby doll carrier or a piece of fabric tied to be a pouch.
Here’s a piece of eucalyptus that looks like it has been nibbled by a koala bear. Have you ever smelled eucalyptus? They sell it at the grocery store to put in flower arrangements. Lauren took this picture and the one of the kangaroo below in Australia.

Here are some beautiful process based art projects based on Aboriginal Dot Painting. The Aborigines are the original native people of Australia. You could do your dot painting with a brush or with q tips.
Here are some templates if you want a pattern to follow for your dot painting. Your handprint is also a great choice.
