Good morning friends. I’m missing your faces and your voices. I thought I’d start your day with some alumni garden children and their mama. Thank you so much for letting us share this with our community.
Some of our Honeybees are starting to be interested in letters. Providing writing tools and an alphabet model that is available to them at all times would be wonderful while we are playing at home. I love having clipboards around at all times in case we need to make a list, take notes, or write a book. In the Honeybee class, drawing is writing. Scribbling is writing. The intention is much more important that the immediate outcome. We are writers, book makers, scientists, and artists. We also like robots.
This is something special for the Forest Makers. Honeybees like big words like Conifer. Do you have any conifers in your yard.? You could make the letter C out of Conifer needles or pinecones in your yard today.
I was thinking about things to do with our children that we might not have time to do all the time. Preschoolers can cook! Setting them up with vegetables to chop and “work” to do gives them a beautiful sense of purpose and belonging. I think kids often eat what they make too. I made Irish soda bread with my mother when I was there weekend before last. Her recipe had caraway seeds and raisins and was utterly delicious. I looked for a recipe that might be a little more child friendly and found this next video. Measuring is math, and the chemical reaction between the acidic buttermilk and the baking soda is pure science. If you don’t have buttermilk just add a spoonful of apple cider vinegar to your milk. I’ve never used a mixer to make this bread. My mother says you mix it quickly with your hands… and only in one direction SO THE FAIRIES DON’T GET OUT. This bread is so good sliced very thinly, toasted, and buttered.
