Dear Honeybee Familes,
Happy Thanksgiving!!! I hope that all of you had a wonderful break. It flew by so quickly, and here I am at home doing school laundry, cooking a turkey, collard greens, and cheese grits.
The Honeybees have been immersed in all kinds of art projects and that’s what we’ll continue tomorrow. Our art show is in three weeks, and I’m excited to see what we come up with. I do a short lesson about an artist, and then we try out their style or process.
Have you read this quote by Picasso? ” Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” I also love “Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.” Of course I’m giving these three and four year olds lots of freedom to create things their way. Projects are also free choice, so every child won’t have the same number of projects. On the last half day of school before the holidays, I’d love to have a big art dress up day. It can be as simple or complex as you want. They can be an artist, dancer, character, favorite color, or art supply. They can wear all of their favorite colors or be a rainbow. We’ll have dancing, sparkling cider in champagne flutes ( plastic) and a cheese plate just like a real art show opening. Our room will be set up as the Honeybee Museum.
This coming week we’ll learn more about Van Gogh and try to make Starry Night out of playdough. We are also going to create some incredible abstract paintings using a rolling pin and our favorite colors. We are hiding our projects aways because we really want to surprise our families.
It’s going to be chilly this week so remember your hats, mittens, and warm coats.
Big love,
Sally and Catherine
