The Honeybees have been squirting and spraying and taping and building and brushing for the past few weeks. Throughout our art month we have focused on process art, artists, art vocabulary, and the way it feels to make art. I think that today all of us can confidently say that we are artists.
We began with watching Picasso paint on glass, and then we did it ourselves out on the playground. Some of us also helped take pictures of our friends while they painted, saying, “I will be the photographer now.” We incorporated storytelling while we were painting on the plexiglass. I posted pictures of each friend over on Instagram, and I’d love to share with you more of this project.
We spent a little time in small groups looking at Andy Warhol’s pop art… and then create some simple Honeybee Pop.
We were very pleased with the idea of throwing and dripping paint like Jackson Pollock, and we thought the results were very beautiful. We each had our stories about what the colors might be telling us.
We met our clay with our feet this year. Later, we made our air dry clay into individual robot sculptures.
We all helped add to our collaborative robot and later would “write” on the body and add ways to make our robot do jobs for us.
We watched a short video about Monet and read the book “Philippe in Monet’s Garden.” We created individual impressionist watercolors and this collaborative garden with a tape resist Japanese Bridge.
We used our bodies to create this large scale art piece. The Honeybees pretended to be making snow angels with oil pastels and crayons. We did this on a rainy day, and made art with exercise.
We made these with our blocks dipped in acrylic paint.
I’ve loved telling stories and gathering supplies and inspiration for these artists. The beautiful work is all theirs. I posted 90 pieces on Instagram, and we’ll bring home our portfolios when we come back to school after Thanksgiving.
