Dear Familes,
Welcome to the New Year at the Children’s Garden. I didn’t even blog about our art show when we left for the holidays, but I did do some recaps on Instagram, and of course you’ll be getting all the originals. We started working on our portfolios this week, and they’ll come home this week. I’ll also email you some versions of your child’s Picasso project to keep. I took so many pictures while they were painting. They were truly beautiful and such an evocative process.
Last Thursday we started talking about Japan! Ohayu! Konichiwa! We’ll check out some traditional Japanese clothing, experiment with brush painting Japanese characters, and learn some songs in Japanese. I even have four small kimonos.
We’ll roll some sushi at the end of the week….just some simple seaweed, rice, and sliced vegetables.
I know the Covid world seems on edge right now. I feel it too. We’ll just keep doing our best while giving the children the opportunity to learn and grow together.
Next week we’ll learn about polar animals. We have learned a lot about hibernation and migration this year, so we’ll add a new word. Adaptation. The Honeybees love animals, and we’ll learn about polar bears, the arctic fox, and penguins. I have some wonderful opportunities to learn about the science of ice….and some beautiful ice art experiences.
Anna and I are gearing up for a simultaneous Bluebird and Honeybee space unit in February.. It is always one of our favorites. This is the perfect time of year for young children to check out the night sky during the winter when it gets dark at dinner time.
