What a perfect day to go to the Pumpkin Patch with you on Friday. It was our first all school field trip ever, and I loved seeing all of you. I’d love to do it again next year now that I know what to expect. I think I might like to do my own program next year and just go on the hay ride to gather pumpkins. I think pumpkin and apple pie might be a nice addition too. {Also toilet paper and wipes.}
This week we’ll continue talking about pumpkins and apples. We’ll make and eat 2 batches of applesauce, one on wednesday and one on thursday. Tomorrow we will do a pumpkin and Yayoi Kusama inspired process art project. There’s an incredible Kusama exhibit titled The One With Eternity at the Hirshhorn until November 27, 2022. Young children definitely connect with Kusama’s work and her love of pumpkins. We’ll learn more about her during our art intensive before winter break. Later in the week we’ll make apple prints and investigate what’s inside an apple. Is there a star? Is there a flower?
We learned about Moth’s last week and made some beautiful watercolour moths. This week we’ll add bodies and antennae and they can fly home.
We have one more monarch in it’s chrysalis to release… our tiniest caterpillar Meow B.
We loved having so much time with our Painted Lady butterflies this past week.
Through October we’ll focus on the fall season. We’ll learn about acorns, falling leaves, why leaves change colors, and which animals hibernate. The Honeybees already know a little bit about migration. We’ll taste apples with honey, make art with apples, and see if we can grow some of our pumpkin seeds.
I’m not sure if you remember, but it is very important to the Tried Stone Church Community that we don’t celebrate Halloween in their building. We won’t wear Halloween costumes on that day and don’t do any themes that are scary or witchy. We will just keep it fall focused in our classrooms.
We have a new seating chart at circle tomorrow. Your child can come in and find their new spot in the morning.
Can you believe it has been six weeks? We have some newcomers, but we are starting to feel like a settled Honeybee class.
As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
