Dear Honeybee Familes,
Welcome to Day Nine of Preschool!!! Here we are starting off Week Three. I always tell parents that it takes 30 days to really sink in to the school experience…. six weeks.. or even longer if you come two or three days. Many of us are still cautious, but we are working every day to build relationships and a sense of belonging. This is our Honeybee Family.
We are meeting friends from other classes on the playground, and there are so many things to do. I really think that we’ve just started to delve into the opportunities for play in our classroom. I hope you have been checking out our instagram to see our daily sensory and art activities. I’ll also try to show you the books we read and what are hands have been busy with.
We gained a new student this week, and the Honeybee class is officially full. We do have one kindergarten/ PK 5 space available if you know someone who is looking for a friendly play based kindergarten. This space could be full or half day.
Did you see that we have a magical storyteller joining us every Friday for books and songs. When my children were little and I had just moved to Blacksburg she was the children’s librarian at the Blacksburg Library, and we’ve stayed in touch. The children loved her songs, fingerplays, and books. She is an artist and lives on a magical farm with ducks, chickens, rabbits and a big white dog just outside of Blacksburg.
We enjoyed talking about apples and Catherine’s trip to the apple orchard. We’ll circle back to apples this Fall and make our own applesauce together. We made beautiful apple prints that are on our A is for Apple board in the classroom.
The whole school is excited about the Monarch caterpillars. The Bluebirds even got to see their caterpillar transform into its chrysalis. It absolutely magical. If we don’t see one in the classroom we’ll watch a video that I made. We’ll do a caterpillar dance at circle time in which we wiggle out of our yellow and green striped sweater. We introduce The Caterpillar Song, and will sing that again this week.
This week we’ll make magical monarch wands to take home, make our own paints out of chalk, create a monarch process art piece using folding to create two wings, and make more beaded caterpillars. These Honeybees are asking for painting every day, so of course we’ll make that a frequent choice.
If you have any questions or concerns please know that I’m happy to talk to you anytime. We can meet a little early before school, and I’m often here until around five thirty. Thank you so much for sharing these amazing little people with us.
